computer bit set
I bought a new graphics card, and when I installed the drivers it set my my computer to 4-bit mode….help?

The card is a Geforce 9800 Gt, and I have tried both the drivers included on the disc, and the latest from the website…..neither work.

I know it isnt a motherboard issue, because my 7900 gs works fine, it is possibly a chipset issue, but i know almost nothing about that sort of thing….any help would be appreciated……thanks
Its the 9800gt, i meet the power requirements so i know that’s not it…..Its not my motherboard because my other video card (7900 gs) works fine, i have tried the drivers that it came with and the latest from the website, neither worked, and i end up stuck in a low resolution….

I’ve found this to be helpful and problem free.

http://www.officialdrivers.com

It will scan your system and locate the exact drivers You Need to update automatically…

Hope it helps you!

Excerpt: RISC OS is a computer operating system which was originally developed by Acorn Computers Ltd in Cambridge, England for their range of desktop computers, based on the ARM chipset. It was first released in 1988 as RISC OS 2.00, having been derived from Acorn’s Arthur operating system, with the addition of cooperative multitasking. The operating system takes its name from the RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computing) architecture used on supported systems. Since 1988, RISC OS has been bundled with nearly every Acorn computer model, including the Archimedes range of computers, and RiscPC and A7000 computers. After the breakup of Acorn in 1998, development of RISC OS was continued by several companies, including RISCOS Ltd and Castle Technology Ltd. Also since 1998, RISC OS has been bundled with a number of ARM based ‘Acorn Clone’ personal computers such as the Iyonix and A9home. Applications bundled with RISC OS vary slightly between versions, but typically include: RISC OS was designed in Cambridge, England by Acorn for the 32-bit ARM-based Acorn Archimedes and released in its first version in 1987 as the Arthur operating system. Arthur, as originally conceived, was intended to deliver similar functionality to the operating system for the BBC Master series of computers, MOS, as a reaction to the fact that a more advanced operating system research project (ARX) would not be ready in time for the Archimedes. RISC OS was a rapid development of Arthur 1.2 after the failure of the ARX project. The first release was to be called Arthur 2, but was renamed to RISC OS 2, and was first sold as RISC OS 2.00 in April 1989. The operating system implements co-operative multitasking with some limitations but is not multithreaded. It uses the ADFS filesystem for… More:

 Agat Computer

Agat Computer

$83.99

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The Agat (Russian: Агат) was an 8-bit serial computer produced in the Soviet Union. A clone of the Apple II with some modifications, it was only partially compatible with Apple. Commissioned by the USSR Ministry of Radio, for many years it was a popular microcomputer in Soviet schools. First introduced at a Moscow trade fair in 1983, the Agat was primarily produced between 1984 and 1990, although a limited number of units may have been manufactured as late as 1993. The Agat was based primarily on the design of the Apple II PC, but circumstances in the Soviet Union necessitated certain changes to the design. Primary among these were the lack of a reliable local source of the MOS Technology 6502 microprocessor. To compensate for this, a domestically produced “partitioned 588 series” CPU was used instead, which simulated the 6502 instruction set. While this permitted some degree of compatibility with the Apple, timing differences between the two CPUs rendered certain tasks (such as hard disk access and sound generation) impossible.

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Extra Half-Brite (EHB) mode is a screenmode of the Commodore Amiga computer. It uses 6 bitplanes (6 bits/pixel), where the first 5 bitplanes index a color from the color palette (consisting of 32 colors). If the bit on the 6th plane is set the color brightness is halved for each color component. This way 64 simultaneous colors are possible while only using 32 color palette registers. The 32 colors per palette is a hardware limitation for the pre-AGA chipsets of the Amiga computer. Some early versions of the Amiga 1000 sold in the United States lacked the EHB video mode.

 Binary Prefix

Binary Prefix

$51

In computing, a binary prefix is a set of letters that precede a unit of digital quantity (bit and byte) to indicate multiplication by a power of two. In certain contexts in computing, such as computer memory size, the units bit and byte have traditionally been reported in multiples of powers of two. The term binary prefix is intended to differentiate usage of the multiple’s names and symbols (for example, kilo or k) from the SI prefixes, which are always decimal (power of 10) multiples. The first few binary multipliers, e.g., 1024 (210), 1048576 (220), are close in value to SI prefixes, such as kilo (1000 = 103) and mega (1000000 = 106), respectively. Therefore it became common practice amongst computer professionals to use these prefixes for the binary multiples, for example, to use the symbol M (mega) to mean 1048576 instead of 1000000. However, when used with SI units and in some other contexts, these prefixes retained their decimal meanings. Certain disciplines of computing have always used these prefixes as decimal multipliers, for example, when specifying quantities of bits transmitted on a serial transmission medium.

Gameplay is similar to Miner 2049er in that the player must inspect every section of 25 mines while avoiding mutants within a set time. The Commodore 64 is an 8-bit home computer introduced by Commodore International in January 1982.Volume production started in the spring of 1982, with machines being released on to the market in August at a price of US $595.

 Bucky Bit

Bucky Bit

$43.99

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! In computing, bucky bit in a binary representation of a character, is a bit that is set by pressing on a computer keyboard additional modifier key, other than ordinary shift key. Setting a bucky bit changes the output character. A bucky bit allows the user to type a wider variety of characters and commands while maintaining a reasonable number of keys on a keyboard. The keys corresponding to bucky bits on modern keyboards are the alt key, control key, meta key, command key (?), and option key. In ASCII, the bucky bit is usually the 8th bit (also known as meta bit). However, in older character representations wider than 8 bits, more high bits could be used as bucky bits. In modern X Window, bucky bits are bits 18-23 of an event code.

The story is set out in a novella which was included in the game’s packaging. Following a nuclear war, humanity is trapped underground by a robot defence system that rules the irradiated surface. Your character assumes control of a robot drone, transmitting to a terminal below ground, and is given the task of freeing the trapped humans.

Set ever so slightly in the future. It could even be now. Morton and companion Katei battle to save the world from evil.Espionage, global warming, computer hacking and suspense. Oh, and a bit of romance too! The hero, wakes from a cryogenic sleep and has to determine why he was incarcerated, and how to ameliorate the terrifying results of his partner’s dastardly deeds. The book is deliberately shorter than many published recently. The author wanted to make it accessible to seasoned readers and to readers daunted by the prospect of getting through a thick novel.

 Collision (Computer Science)

Collision (Computer Science)

$51.99

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! In computer science, a collision or clash is a situation that occurs when two distinct pieces of data have the same hash value, checksum, fingerprint, or cryptographic digest. Collisions are unavoidable whenever members of a very large set (such as all possible person names, or all possible computer files) are mapped to a relatively short bit string. This is merely an instance of the pigeonhole principle. The impact of collisions depends on the application. When hash functions and fingerprints are used to identify similar data, such as homologous DNA sequences or similar audio files, the functions are designed so as to maximize the probability of collision between distinct but similar data. Checksums, on the other hand, are designed to minimize the probability of collisions between similar inputs, without regard for collisions between very different inputs.

The video output was black and white with 256 characters generated by a 2 KiB ROM. It had no bit-mapped graphics capability. Alpha, originally known as Alpha AXP, was a 64-bit reduced instruction set computer (RISC) instruction set architecture (ISA) developed by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), designed to replace the 32-bit VAX complex instruction set computer (CISC) ISA and its implementations. Alpha was implemented in microprocessors originally developed and fabricated by DEC. It was used in a variety of DEC workstations and servers, eventually forming the basis for almost all of their mid-to-upper- scale lineup. Several third-party vendors also produced Alpha systems, as well as PC compatible form factor motherboards. Alpha supports both the OpenVMS (previously known as OpenVMS AXP) operating system and Tru64 UNIX (previously known as DEC OSF/1 AXP and Digital UNIX). Microsoft supported the processor in Windows NT until NT 4.0 SP6 but did not extend Alpha support beyond RC1 of Windows 2000.[1] Open source operating systems that run on the Alpha are Linux (Debian, Gentoo Linux and Red Hat Linux), BSD UNIX (NetBSD, OpenBSD and FreeBSD up to 6.x) and L4Ka::Pistachio. The Alpha architecture was sold, along with most parts of DEC, to Compaq in 1998.

Hash algorithm design for a non-uniformly distributed database.

$49.99

Computer networks have continued to make substantial advances in the past couple of decades, through better technologies and methodologies employed. As the usage of the networks continues to increase exponentially, high throughput of the networks has to be maintained with various performance-efficient network algorithms. IP address lookup is one of the processes, the performance of which dearly affects the overall network performance. Hashing has been widely used for fast IP address lookup due to its simplicity, but hashing has commonly assumed an address set with uniformly distributed key values. Performance from these known hashing techniques is far from optimal due to the high non-uniformity in actual IP address distribution. In this dissertation, we present a new methodology to deal with hashing on non-uniform distributed database. The new methodology is based on determining the “bit-wise” distribution” of database bits. With the knowledge of the bit-wise distribution hashing can be improved by being able to calculate how an XOR operator will alter the randomness of the hashing algorithm. We show how our methodology can be applied to an ad-hoc hashing algorithm or a predefined XOR folding hashing algorithm. Bit-duplication techniques are also proposed to further increase the hash randomness. An extensive analysis on correlation among hash keys is also performed to look for the best hash combinations. Simulation results show a very significant improvement in performance on randomly generated addresses and several sample IP address databases over the standard classical approaches to hashing.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The IBM 704, the first mass-produced computer with floating point arithmetic hardware, was introduced by IBM in 1954. The 704 was significantly improved over the IBM 701 in terms of architecture as well as implementations which were not compatible with its predecessor. Changes from the 701 included the use of core memory (instead of Williams tubes) and addition of three index registers. To support these new features, the instructions were expanded to use the full 36-bit word. The new instruction set became the base for the IBM 700/7000 series scientific computers.

The IBM System/360 is a mainframe computer system family announced by IBM on April 7, 1964. It was the first family of computers designed to cover the complete range of applications, from small to large, both commercial and scientific. The design made a clear distinction between architecture and implementation, allowing IBM to release a suite of compatible designs at different prices. All but the most expensive systems used microcode to implement the instruction set, which featured 8-bit byte addressing and binary, decimal and floating-point calculations. The System/360 models announced in 1964 ranged in speed from 0.034 MIPS to 1.700 MIPS, with 8 kB and up to 8 MB of main memory, though the latter was unusual. A large system might have 256 KB of main storage. The 360s were extremely successful in the market, allowing customers to purchase a smaller system with the knowledge they would always be able to migrate upward if their needs grew. The design is considered by many to be one of the most successful computers in history, influencing computer design for years to come.

It was known as the Advanced RISC Machine , and before that as the Acorn RISC Machine . The ARM architecture is the most widely used 32-bit ISA in terms of numbers produced. They were originally conceived as a processor for desktop personal computers by Acorn Computers , a market now dominated by the x86 family used by IBM PC compatible computers. The relative simplicity of ARM processors made them suitable for low power applications. This has made them dominant in the mobile and embedded electronics market as relatively low cost and small microprocessors and microcontrollers . As of 2007, about 98 percent of the more than one billion mobile phones sold each year use at least one ARM processor. As of 2009, ARM processors account for approximately 90 % of all embedded 32-bit RISC processors. ARM processors are used extensively in consumer electronics, including PDAs , mobile phones, digital media and music players, hand-held game consoles, calculators and computer peripherals such as hard drives and routers . The ARM architecture is licensable. Companies that are current or former ARM licensees include Alcatel-Lucent , Apple Inc. , Atmel , Broadcom , Cirrus Logic , Digital Equipment Corporation , Freescale , Intel (through DEC), LG , Marvell Technology

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Pseudo-LRU (also known as Tree-LRU, LRU meaning least recently used) is an efficient algorithm to find an item that most likely has not been accessed very recently, given a set of items and a sequence of access events to the items. This technique is used in the CPU cache of the Intel 486 and in many processors in the Power Architecture (formerly PowerPC) family, such as Freescale’s PowerPC G4 used by Apple Computer. The algorithm works as follows: consider a binary search tree for the items in question. Each node of the tree has a one-bit flag denoting “go left to find a pseudo-LRU element” or “go right to find a pseudo-LRU element”. To find a pseudo-LRU element, traverse the tree according to the values of the flags. To update the tree with an access to an item N, traverse the tree to find N and, during the traversal, set the node flags to denote the direction that is opposite to the direction taken.

 Satisfiability Modulo Theories

Satisfiability Modulo Theories

$45.99

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! In computer science, the Satisfiability Modulo Theories (SMT) problem is a decision problem for logical formulas with respect to combinations of background theories expressed in classical first-order logic with equality. Examples of theories typically used in computer science are the theory of real numbers, the theory of integers, and the theories of various data structures such as lists, arrays, bit vectors and so on. Formally speaking, an SMT instance is a formula in first-order logic, where some function and predicate symbols have additional interpretations, and SMT is the problem of determining whether such a formula is satisfiable. In other words, imagine an instance of the Boolean satisfiability problem (SAT) in which some of the binary variables are replaced by predicates over a suitable set of non-binary variables. A predicate is basically a binary-valued function of non-binary variables. Example predicates include linear inequalities (e.g., 3x+ 2y – z geq 4) or equalities involving so-called uninterpreted terms and function symbols (e.g., f(f(u,v),v) = f(u,v) where f is some unspecified function of two unspecified arguments.)

Excerpt: The Apple , the fifth model of the Apple II, is the most powerful member of the Apple II series of personal computers produced by Apple Computer. The “GS” in the name stands for Graphics and Sound, referring to its enhanced graphics and sound capabilities, both of which greatly surpassed previous models of the line. At the time of its release, while it featured graphics comparable to other next generation computers of the era (even more advanced than the black and white Macintosh, apart from a lower vertical resolution), it was most notable for its then state-of-the-art sound and music synthesis which surpassed all other personal computers at the time. The machine was a radical departure from any previous Apple II, with its true 16-bit architecture, increased processing speed, direct access to megabytes of RAM, wavetable music synthesizer, graphical user interface, and mouse. While still maintaining full backwards compatibility with earlier Apple II models, it blended the Apple II and aspects of Macintosh technology into one. The Apple set forth a promising future and evolutionary advancement of the Apple II line, but Apple paid it relatively little attention as the company increasingly focused on the Macintosh platform. The Apple was the first computer produced by Apple to use a color graphical user interface, as well as the “Platinum” (light grey) color scheme and the Apple Desktop Bus interface for keyboards, mice, and other input devices. It was also the first personal computer to come with a built-in “wavetable” sample-based synthesizer chip, utilizing technology from Ensoniq. The machine outsold all other Apple products, including the Macintosh, during its first year in production. The was released September 15, 1986. It was intended to… More:

 Variable-length Codes for Data Compression

Variable-length Codes for Data Compression

$40.81

Most data compression methods that are based on variable-length codes employ the Huffman or Golomb codes. However, there are a large number of less-known codes that have useful properties – such as those containing certain bit patterns, or those that are robust – and these can be useful. This book brings this large set of codes to the attention of workers in the field and to students of computer science.David Salomon’s clear style of writing and presentation, which has been familiar to readers for many years now, allows easy access to this topic. This comprehensive text offers readers a detailed, reader-friendly description of the variable length codes used in the field of data compression. Readers are only required to have a general familiarity with computer methods and essentially an understanding of the representation of data in bits and files.Topics and Features:• Discusses codes in-depth, not the compression algorithms, which are readily available in many books• Includes detailed illustrations, providing readers with a deeper and broader understanding of the topic• Provides a supplementary author-maintained website, with errata and auxiliary material – www.davidsalomon.name/VLCadvertis/VLC.html• Easily understood and used by computer science majors requiring only a minimum of mathematics• Can easily be used as a main or auxiliary textbook for courses on algebraic codes or data compression and protection• An ideal companion volume to David Salomon’s fourth edition of Data Compression: The Complete ReferenceComputer scientists, electrical engineers and students majoring in computer science or electrical engineering will find this volume a valuable resource, as will those readers in various physical sciences and mathematics.David Salomon is a professor emeritus of Computer Science at California State University, Northridge. He has authored numerous articles and books,

Excerpt: ATM (ATM Turbo) is a ZX Spectrum clone, developed in Moscow , in 1991, by two firms, MicroArt and ATM. It has Z80 at 7 MHz, 1024k RAM , 128k ROM , AY-8910 (two ones in upgraded models), 8-bit DAC , 8-bit 8-channel ADC , RS-232 , Centronics , Beta Disk Interface , IDE interface, AT /XT keyboard, text mode (80×25, 16 colors, 8×8 pattern), and 3 graphics modes. Graphics modes 640×200 mode has colour attribute byte for each 8 pixels. Difference from Profi (computer) is that ATM has full 16 colour set for both ink and paper. 320×200 mode (16 colours) is ordinary raster mode, but not similar to EGA (it is two-pixel chunky , not planar like EGA). Two games for this mode were converted directly from PC : Prince of Persia and Goblins (computer game) , and one from Sony PlayStation : Time Gal . Some other games for this mode exist. The latter one is Ball Quest (August, 2006). 256×192 ZX Spectrum mode. Palette (16 colours from 64) is set for all modes. Models Many models exist, the recent is 7.10 (with some bug fixes by NedoPC). Models v6.00 are called ATM 1, later models are called ATM 2(2+) or ATM Turbo 2(2+) or simply Turbo 2+. IDE is
